VMware vSphere environment updates
Section 5.3.6, vSphere Update Manager Deployment Model, covers the setup of the vSphere Update Manager Service. This service will download recent patches for VMware components (ESX hosts, vCenter, appliances, and so on). With vSphere Update Manager, you can create custom rules for performing updates, including required patches (security, critical fix, and so on).
This section provides an overview of the impact that patches have on specific components.
Table 83. VMware Appliances, vCenter and ESX Host Update Impacts
Component | Workloads impacted (downtime) | Impact (during update time) |
---|---|---|
ESXi hosts | No | Cluster capacity might be reduced until patching is finished. |
vCenter Server | No | No new workloads (VMs) can be deployed. |
VMware appliances such as | No | Appliance might have a short downtime. |
